N535WK is an MD 530F operated by the San Diego County Sheriff aviation unit and based at Gillespie Field (KSEE) in El Cajon, CA. This helicopter is powered by a 650 shp Rolls Royce 250/C30HU turboshaft driving a five-blade main rotor. Top speed is 175 mph with a range of 267 miles. The unit’s MD 500 series helicopters are primarily dedicated to law enforcement support and are equipped with FLIR, a moving map, a high powered search light, and an NVG compatible cockpit for flying under goggles.

Known as ASTREA (Aerial Support to Regional Enforcement Agencies). the aviation unit’s primary missions include law enforcement support, fire suppression, and search and rescue in an area of 4,200 square miles, and may extend to surrounding counties when requested.
