Serving the state of North Carolina and surrounding states since 1986, Carolina Air Care is a emergency air and ground transport agency working under the direction of the University of North Carolina Medical Center, a Level 1 trauma center located in Chapel Hill.

Operating EC-135s and Bell 429s using the call sign Tar Heel and a number designation, the flight crew - a pilot, a critical care nurse, and a critical care paramedic - quickly respond to calls for assistance to stabilize and transport critical pediatric and adult patients from offsite emergency scenes and inter-facility care centers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
